The Hundreds: A Tribute to Hardcore
I've been excited for this project for a few months now. The idea of The Hundreds, Benny Gold, Johnny Cupcakes and Flying Coffin doing a collaborative tribute to hardcore series makes me want to buy the whole series without even seeing them. Good thing I don't have, or might not even get to. The first views showed up on High Snobiety today, and along with the previews, the information that these might be released in store only at The Hundreds.
The Hundreds x Johnny Cupcakes
The Hundreds x Chain of Strength
The Hundreds x Benny Gold x Gorilla Biscuits
The Hundreds x CIV (x Bad Brains & Cro-mags?)
The Hundreds x Flying Coffin
Hopefully they decide to release these to their webstore as well so that I can pay for them and get them home and put them on. Either that or pay obscene amounts on ebay, which I'm not about to do. Since the pictures were taken of all larges and they're already out of the plastic and have already been touched, maybe someone at The Hundreds could just send those "used" ones over to me.

Summer....finally!
Since we live in Canada, we aren't lucky enough to have warm weather all year long...we get a few warm months a year, and thats all, the rest are freezing cold, at least in Saskatchewan they are. So we gotta take advantage of the warmth when we can.
Cash loves the weather too!
He loves his rope!
...nap time
I love Summer!

Actual Pain
Actual Pain has been one of my favorite brands ever since I stumbled on their stuff via Mishka. Since there's no shops around here that carry their line and I like to shop locally as much as possible, I haven't had a chance to pick anything of theirs up yet. Well when TJ decided to run a 30% off sale on their webstore I couldn't resist and had to pick up a few pieces.
Actual Pain x Mishka New Era and Gore Tiger shirt.
And a few stickers, plus where I do all of my work from. It's starting to get a bit crowded.
Although it isn't very apparent in our current designs, I think Single Second and Actual Pain have a lot in common. I can't say for sure though as I've never met TJ. Keep following us in the next year though and you'll probably start to see a few more parallels.

Welcome to Saskatoon
Saskatoon. It's not a bad place to live. Cost of living is pretty good. It's big enough that there are interesting things to do and small enough that it only takes a maximum of about a half hour to get there. Lions skatepark is one of the better parks in western Canada. Yeah it has ridiculously cold winters, but the generally long and hot summers usually make up for it. The economy here is on a steady boom while the rest of the world is struggling. Oh and the music scene is really starting to take a turn for the better.
So why am I telling you all of this? Because apparently Saskatoon is not only the murder capital of Canada but is also considered the 9th most dangerous city on the planet. Of course these are based on statistics because honestly, are you in more danger living in Saskatoon or Detroit? Don't tell anyone though, a little bit of assumed toughness never hurt anyone.

Weekend Goofy Skateboard peripheral
For ever Tony Hawks Pro Skater and the rest of the series was the king of the hill as far as skate videogames were concerned. Looking back on it, it seems like a goofy control scheme, but at the time it was fun as hell. When EA made Skate, it killed the THPS series, and rightfully so, it's one of the best games i've ever played. Well Activison went back to the drawing board and they have come back with this
Now I know game specific peripherals have worked, ala Rockband and Guitar Queer-o, but the main difference is that everyone wants to be a rockstar, not everyone wants to be Jerry Hsu. People sing in the shower and play air guitar on the bus, nobody who dosen't skate air kickflips or boardslides in the shower. So people are willing to pay 150$+ for plastic guitars and drums, but I certainly doubt anyones gonna pay 100$ for this thing. It says in the press bio that actual skates will be able to pick it up pretty easily, but as myself, Derek and Trev discussed before, if you are a skater and you want to skate, your not gonna stand on a plastic board, you are gonna go outside and skate. The press release also stated more in depth how the board is used, but the thing seems so useless to me that I could care less to publish that info here.
Afro Samurai thoughts coming tommorow.

Classic Skate Video Parts: Fulfill the Dream - Chad Muska
This video killed it when it came out, I watched it a lot and was always impressed by how young most of the team was. But there's no way anyone could ever dispute Muska being the star of this video. This shit came out and EVERY kid had the white/red Muska board and the Muska track pants. The best product I think he had out at the time were his shoes, Trevor used to claim that they were the reason he learned to kickflip. Now, years later, his Supra Skytops are one of the most hyped and sought after shoe in skateboarding. Watching this part right now just makes me want to go skateboarding. Maybe I will this weekend.

Half Week Hardcore
Only one this week. This song describes almost perfectly, our mentality here at Single Second. We do this for ourselves, not for approval of others. More people should live their lives that way.

Best Store/Office Ever??
I'd say so. Designed by studiometrico in Milan, the Bastard store and Comvert HQ combines intricately detailed modern design with a very well designed skate bowl. It's my dream to be able to work in a space like this everyday, being an architectural tech and a brand owner. It's always exciting to see a building apapdted from it's original use and designed perfectly for a new completely different use of space. In this case, from a theatre to a clothing store.

Vans Vault 2009 Holiday Era Pack
Much like the previously seen Half Cabs, Vans Vault works up a similar treatment to their classic Era model. The sneakers feature a simple two-tone color block, done up in suede, and finished with extended contrast piping. Both a black/white and brown/gold will releasing in the latter part of 2009.
These shoes are so nice! Vans is making its way to being my favorite shoe!

Half Week Hardcore
This week we look at a few bands that put out some of the best hardcore I've ever heard and have since drifted from their roots or are no longer making music.
AFI - Coin Return
Poison The Well - Nerdy
The Nerve Agents - Evil
More metal than hardcore, but they were an awesome band anyways.
Burn In Silence - Lines From An Epitaph

Complex Interviews Andrew Lee of Invisible Man
Invisible Man is one brand that is nearly impossible to find on the internet, the same can be said for Bastard Squad. The reason why? They're both run by Andrew Lee, along with his Commissary stores in California and new Invisible Man store in New York. People like Andrew inspire me. The type of person that does what they want, how they want, when they want to. Do yourself a favor and check out his interview with Complex. Then check out Commissary and Bastard Squad.

The Hundreds Summer 2009 Denim
For Summer 2009 The Hundreds present once again a strong line-up of denim, which has become a staple in their collection. The line-up features different washes, cuts and customizations, making sure there is something for all tastes. The denim is now available at The Hundreds retailers and will be available in the SF and LA store from May 7th.
I am a huge fan of raw denim (most of the denim I have is raw)...such as these right here
But I am very much liking these washed ones!
Go get 'em!

Actual Pain presents: "At The Mountains of Madness" by Fenriz
Actual Pain presents their latest mix-tape put together by Fenriz from Darkthrone. I'll admit I'm usually not a fan of "mix-tapes", but anything that has anything by Rudimentary Peni is immediately worth a listen. Get the download from Actual Pain here.
FROM FENRIZ HIMSELF:
“EVERY TIME I HEARD THIS “TOTAL ECLIPSE” BY ALAN PARSONS, I THOUGHT “I GOTTA USE THIS IN A MIX, IT’S GOT THAT PERFECT SPACE ODYSSEY 2001 VIBE, KINDA LIKE THE LONG VERSION OF THE INTRO TO CELTIC FROST’S “INTO THE CRYPTS OF RAYS”. IT’S COLD.
SO I GO FROM COLD TO BEAUTIFUL BUT STILL LO FI SAD/MELANCHOLIC ON THE “WITHOUT REASON” TRACK FROM PEGASE. ONE OF THE BEST SONGS I HEARD LAST YEAR. TO TIE IT UP TO CHRISTIAN DEATH, I NEEDED A MIDDLE SONG, A BRIDGE. AND I FOUND THAT IN “NOWA ALEKSANDIRA” BY SIEKIERA, LIKE IS IT PUNK, IS IT NEW WAVE, IS IT GOTH…AND THE TEMPO WORKS WELL WITH THE PREVIOUS PEGASE TRACK..AND SO COMES THE ROMEO’S DISTRESS, LONG TIME FAVOURITE OF MINE SINCE I DISCOVERED IT IN THE 80S, A DJ FAVOURITE OF BOTH ME AND EINAR FROM INFERNÖ/BEYOND DAWN, VIRUS ETC. THE WHOLE ALBUM IS A SCORCHER.
THEN SINCE THE TAPE SHOULD ONLY BE 30 MINUTES LONG, I NEEDED A SHORT LINK TO SOMETHING MORE METAL, AND AFTER CHRISTIAN DEATH I’D HAVE TO GO WITH SEPTIC DEATH OR RUDIMENTARY PENI, I THOUGHT. I GOT THAT RUDI-TRACK FROM A FELLOW MUSIC FREAK FROM AUSTRALIA (HI ANDREW) AND THAT TRACK IS SO INSTANT. BEFORE THE BEHEMOTH OF “SIGHT OF THE WISE” WITH SACRILEGE. EVERYONE PLAYS THEIR 1ST ALBUM, I USUALLY GO ON ABOUT THE 2ND ONE AS THE RIFFORAMA ON IT IS PRICELESS – IT WAS HARD TO GET INTO AS A KID BUT THAT ALBUM IS THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING. I GET TOTALLY LOST IN IT. THEN TO JUST CONTINUE THE WHAT IS IT STYLE, I BLAST THE FIRST TRACK OF THE SINDROME DEMO FROM 87/88, THIS WAS THE VOCALIST OF CHICAGO GODS DEVASTATION’S NEW BAND, AND ONE OF THE MOST PROFESSIONAL DEMOS OF THE 80S. I’VE BEEN PLAYING IT FOR 21 YEARS STRAIGHT!
SO, AS A WEIRD BREAK AND LINK TO BOTH THE EERIE INTRO AND THE ORGAN ON THE BEFORE MENTIONED SACRILEGE TRACK, I SHOOT IN ONE HEAVY PSALM THAT A MASTER DJ HERE IN OSLO BURNT ME, TOTALLY OBSCURE VINYL OLDIE… AND IT CONTINUES WITH THE INTRO TO THE RECENTLY DISCOVERED “AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS” BY BLACKFEATHER, THANKS TO PETER IN WOLF 359 FOR SHOWING ME THAT SHOCKER FROM 1971.
SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE, FENRIZ, APRIL 2009”
From Actual Pain.
